Долго, долго шел их караван, медленно брели верблюды (16). А путь указывала все та же звезда – яркая, чудная.
Наконец, добрались волхвы до Иерусалима и начали всех расспрашивать:
– Где родился Царь Иудейский? Мы видели Его звезду, взошедшую далеко на Востоке, и пришли поклониться Ему.
Услышал о появлении волхвов царь Ирод (17) и очень испугался. Он собрал учёных и священников, и принялся расспрашивать их, где должен родиться Спаситель. Они сказали ему:
– Пророки говорили, что Он должен родиться в Вифлееме.
Хитрый Ирод тайком позвал волхвов к себе и велел идти в Вифлеем, все разузнать там и, вернувшись, обязательно рассказать ему. Он утверждал, что тоже хочет пойти поклониться Младенцу. Но Ирод пытался обмануть их, на самом деле, он замышлял погубить Спасителя. (18)

For a long, long time their caravan walked and their camels walked slowly (16). And the same star, bright and wonderful, showed the way.
Finally the wise men reached Jerusalem and started asking everyone questions:
– Where was the King of the Jews born? We had seen His star rising far to the east and we had come to worship Him.
King Herod heard about the appearance of the wise men (17) and was very frightened. He gathered the religious scholars and priests and asked them where the Saviour was to be born. They told him:
– The prophets had said that He should be born in Bethlehem.
Wily Herod called the wise men secretly and told them to go to Bethlehem and find out everything and to tell him everything when they came back. He told them that he also wanted to go and worship the child. But Herod had tried to deceive them; in fact he had plotted to kill the Saviour. (18)
